Heartwarming Play Between Lope and Shufai

Some heartwarming play between Lope and Shufai. Lope and his ultra cool approaches that only he can do. Shufai and his little jumps.

Hilarious Moment As Lope Pulls Faces At Silverback Behind Flap

A short while back Twycross Zoo had some new flaps fitted to the Western Lowland Gorillas house. They weren’t see through before, but now they are and as you can see Lope is making the most of it. Pulling funny faces while Oumbi his dad is on the other side and watching him. Unfortunately I’ve only got the last bit of this on video, so I slowed it down a little for you to see how silly Lope is. When Oumbi has enough of Lopes shenanigans, he storms inside. Lopes brother Shufai runs up to the flap to have a look what all the commotion is about. By the time I get round to the viewing area inside, it all calmed down a bit with Oumbi pulling Lopes head in a playful manner. Lope being Lope, he can’t let things lie and sits himself next to the huge Silverback. Just sit back and enjoy Lopes and Oumbis playful interaction.

Oumbi The Silverback Gorilla Slides Down The Slippery Slope

Even a Silverback gorilla can slip up. So much so that he does the splits. Oumbi the silverback western lowland gorilla from Twycross Zoo in England is getting more active. As the leader of the gorilla family, he keeps his family in check by overlooking all the activities of the entire group. Mostly calm, he has got his moments like today when he keeps beating his chest and even gives his chosen mate Ozala a little push while casually walking past. Shufai his son is giving mum a quick hug afterwards and you almost think he follows Oumbi to have a word. Oumbi is having one of his moments again when Lope the older sibling, mum Ozala with Shufai on her back are grazing. He charges down the slope. Lope and Ozala get out of his way straight away. Unfortunately it doesn’t really go Oumbis way, as he is a bit too fast and slides down the rest of the slope doing the splits. Trying not to lose face, he acts normal afterwards with Ozala stealing a quick look at him as if to say, what was that all about? But then she quickly looks away, still being wary of him while he walks past.

Gorilla Mother Ozala Takes It All In Her Stride

Gorilla Mum Ozala takes it all in her stride in this compilation of Lope, her son being a bit of a handful. Shufai is not faced either taking a ride on mums back.

Romance Blossoming For Hairless Chimpanzee

The fascinating Hairless Chimpanzee Jambo from the Twycross Zoo in England is all relaxed in his new enclosure called Eden. He seems totally in Love and besotted with his female mate. He is caressing her foot gently, while she is playing hard to get and keeps pulling away. Just like humans, you can see her later putting her hands around his neck in a loving gesture. Then she starts to kiss his bald head gently. The next bit is just amazing as Jambo pulls away and stretches out his lips towards her. She then gently bites his lips and pulls on it. She continues to investigate his teeth for a few seconds before biting his lip again. He then continues with a French kiss, sticking out his tongue. He even closes his eyes for a second to enjoy the intimate moment. Afterwards he gently bites her brows. You can easily see how animal love doesn’t differ much from our own. Even an alpha male, that shows everybody who the boss is by intimidating the opponent with lots of noise and bluster, that he can be also very gentle. An amazing animal couple. And for Jambo it shows that being a bit different doesn’t stop you from doing anything, from becoming the boss to a gentle lover.
The question on your mind is, why is Jambo hairless? People also call him the “naked chimp”. Some people think they shaved him or that he is ill. The truth is, the ape has alopecia, a medical term for hair loss and he had it since adolescence. He is now 35 years old and with his hair gone you can simply see how powerfully muscular he is. Being hairless hasn’t stopped him from anything, rather the opposite as he’s the alpha male and rules his habitat.
